About Venerable Ngawang Jorden Rinpoche (Former Abbot of Sera Mey Monastery)

Nyungne Purification Practice Retreat

The Nyungne practice is considered the most powerful form of purification. This year our practice begins on Saturday, June 15, during the holy time of Saka Dawa. This is the day our Lord Buddha was born, reached enlightenment and passed into parinirvana. The merit generated from engaging in virtuous activities on this day are vastly multiplied.

A single Nyungne retreat purifies the negativity of forty thousand eons. During this practice we engage in physical fasting, maintain silence, and practice one-pointed concentration, purifying the negative karmic actions of body, speech and mind and their resulting obscurations.
