Tibetan, Tuk Je Che - Tibetan Dharma Language Study Group (Beginner's)
Overview:
Are you thankful that the Dharma has flown into our lives on the wings of the Tibetan Language? Reading and reciting Dharma prayers and texts in the original language adds a special dimension, like receiving a lung directly from the guru.
In its current endangered state, this precious, holy language could become extinct in a very few years if we don’t take some action to try to keep it alive. Hope you can join us in helping to preserve the Tibetan Dharma language and deepening your Dharma practice.
At DNKL we are working together to cultivate Dharma Tibetan in many ways—
Everyone is welcome to this class. We will begin learning how to read and write the alphabet and then continue on through Joe Wilson's book Translating Buddhism from Tibetan. We will also learn the original Tibetan for some of the common prayers used in teachings and daily practices. These always include many of those Dharma terms which get translated in so many different ways. This class will be taught by Susan Altabet and native Tibetan speaker Dolkar Gyaltsen. (Please register)
Instructor:
Susan Altabet has been studying Tibetan for more than 25 years. She began wondering how she would ever have time to learn Tibetan and decided that she would find a class and try to study each day while riding NYC subway. So she did that and little by little and over the years, it grew into something magically meaningful. Reading and reciting Dharma prayers and texts in the original language adds a special dimension, like receiving a lung direct from the guru.
Hope you can join us in helping to preserve the Tibetan Dharma language and deepening your Dharma practice.
