Three Principle Aspects of the Path by Je Tsongkhapa - renunciation, bodhichitta, and right view - are the basis of all the sutra and tantra paths.
Tsongkhapa was born in Amdo and went to study with many teachers in the central Tibetan provinces of U and Tsang. He studied both the sutra and tantra and became fully realized. He wrote eighteen volumes of teaching that are excellent, drawing sources extensively from various Indian texts and commentaries. He taught this specific text to one of his closest disciples, Ngawang Dragpa ( Ngag-dbang grags-pa ).
There is a slight difference in Tsongkhapa's style of teaching in these Three Principle Aspects of the Path and in the Lam-rim. Here, the explanation of the resignation is in two parts. The first is to abandon our obsession with this life by remembering our precious human rebirth and impermanence. The second is to let go of our obsession with future lives by remembering the suffering nature of all samsara.
