New DNKL Tibetan Dharma Language Study Groups on Zoom

Are you thankful that the Dharma has flown into our lives on the wings of the Tibetan Language? In its current endangered state, this precious, holy language could soon become extinct in a very few years if we don’t take some action to try to keep it alive. How can we do that?

We are working together to cultivate Dharma Tibetan at DNKL. Many members from the beginning class have requested the continuation of their study of the Tibetan Language. So we are offering Tibetan Thuk Che Je II.

Project 1: Advanced Beginners - We are studying Joe Wilson's book Translating Buddhism from Tibetan starting from Chapter 7. In addition we will study basic prayers and texts such as The Foundation of All Good Qualities, The Heart Sutra, etc. These always include many of those Dharma terms which get translated in so many different ways. (Please register)

Project 2: Those with some experience in Tibetan - We always have numerous translation projects at DNKL which need assistance such as the preparation of prayers and compiling these into a prayer book. Some students from project 1 are already helping enormously with this prayer book project!

Project 3: Translators - DNKL has a new publishing wing called Karuna Publications which has a long term goal of translating many Gsung ‘bum texts into English. Be part of the team for one of these projects.

(For Projects 2 and 3: Please send an email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with your interest, project 2 or 3, and we will get back to you)

Who should come to Project 1 advanced beginners class:

Those who are interested in learning Tibetan, who already have a knowledge of the Tibetan alphabet, who would like to promote the study of the Tibetan Language in general and to broaden their own inner realization of the sacred prayers and texts through their original language.

Susan Altabet has been studying Tibetan for more than 25 years. She began wondering how she would ever have time to learn Tibetan and decided that she would find a class and try to study each day while riding NYC subway. So she did that and little by little and over the years, it grew into something magically meaningful. Reading and reciting Dharma prayers and texts in the original language adds a special dimension, like receiving a lung direct from the guru.

Hope you can join us in helping to preserve the Tibetan Dharma language and deepening your Dharma practice.
