Lamrim: The Stages of the Path to Enlightenment

December 15 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
lamrim gradual path to enlightenment

Overview

A Complete and Practical Guide to the Buddhist Path

The Lamrim, or Stages of the Path to Enlightenment, is one of the most revered presentations of Buddhist practice in the Tibetan tradition. Written in 1402 by the great master Tsongkhapa, The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment (Lam rim chen mo) brings together the full scope of the Buddha’s teachings into a clear, step-by-step path for study, reflection, and practice.

This class series will begin with Volume One and continue through all three volumes of the Lamrim. Whether you are new to Buddhism or have been practicing for many years, the Lamrim offers a unique way to understand how all Buddhist teachings fit together as a single, coherent path leading toward wisdom and compassion.

Rather than presenting ideas in isolation, the Lamrim shows:

  • what to practice
  • why each practice matters
  • and how each stage prepares the mind for the next

Grounded in the classical Indian Buddhist texts and the Kadampa lineage, the Lamrim preserves the Buddha’s teachings while making them practical and accessible for everyday life.

What We Will Study

  • Volume One introduces the foundational practices and perspectives needed to cultivate bodhicitta — the heartfelt wish to attain enlightenment for the benefit of all beings.
  • Volume Two focuses on training in the six perfections, deepening compassion, ethical conduct, patience, and wisdom in daily life.
  • Volume Three presents the profound practices of meditative serenity (shamatha) and insight into the nature of reality (vipashyana).

Note:  Copies of these books can be purchased on Amazon; we also have a few copies for loan in our library.

Who This Class Is For

This course is open to:

  • Those new to Buddhism seeking a clear and authentic foundation
  • Experienced practitioners wishing to deepen or clarify their understanding
  • Anyone interested in a structured path for transforming the mind and heart

The teachings will be presented in an accessible way, with time for reflection and discussion.

For anyone who wishes to genuinely understand Buddhism as a complete path — not just as philosophy, but as lived practice — the Lamrim is essential study.
