Mind of Clear Light: Living Well and Dying Consciously

February 11 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

OVERVIEW:

Take this journey into ways to active contemplation of the deep nature of the mind—clear light—and its manifestation throughout our life and at death.

Based on an analysis and detailed explanation by His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama of the First Pachen Lama, Lobsang Choekyi Gyaltsen’s poem, Wishes for Release from the Perilous Straits of the Intermediate State, Hero Releasing from Fright, we dive into vivid detail of the structure of Buddhist depth psychology as well as the process of dying and the period after death and before the next life.

This includes, while we are living, discovering the value of being mindful of death, the ways to do so, how to overcome fear while dying and also in the intermediate state between lives, and how to help others who are dying.

His Holiness reveals details about the actual process of dying, and most important includes practical advice on how to use this process in a skillful way to help us on our continuing journey.  He advises that as we near the end of life we need to be reminded of our practice, whatever kind it is. We’ll include examples from not only the Buddhist tradition but others including atheists.

Specific topics covered are how to best maximize this precious gift of human life; having an awareness of death and ways to liberate from fear of what’s to come. Also, how to prepare to die and how to remove obstacles to a favorable death. And most important, gaining favorable conditions for the time of death.

From there, our journey continues by learning how to meditate while dying based on an awareness of the inner structure of our being, allowing us to have conscious awareness of the clear light of death.

And to complete the circle of life, how we gain an awareness and ability to be mindful of our continuing journey through the intermediate state and how to skillfully use that to gain a positive rebirth.
