Overview:

Everyone is welcome to this class. Are you thankful that the Dharma has flown into our lives on the wings of the Tibetan Language? In its current endangered state, this precious, holy language could become extinct in a very few years. Hope you can join us to help preserve the Tibetan Dharma language, and deepen your Dharma practice by learning to understand, read, and recite Dharma prayers and texts in Tibetan.

This class will be taught by Susan Altabet and native Tibetan speaker Dolkar Gyaltsen. (Please register)

7-7:30 Focus on the Tibetan alphabet

7:30-8 Study syllables, words and grammar in Joe Wilson’s book Translating Buddhism from Tibetan

8-8:30 Translate the Three Principal Aspects of the Path by Tsongkhapa.

You are welcome to come to any part of this class and leave at any point if it feels too advanced!

Instructor:
Susan Altabet has been studying Tibetan for more than 25 years. Her main teacher has been Dr. Lozang Jamspal.

She began wondering how she would ever have time to learn Tibetan and decided that she would find a class and try to study each day while riding NYC subway. So she did that and little by little and over the years, it grew into something magically meaningful. Reading and reciting Dharma prayers and texts in the original language adds a special dimension, like receiving a lung direct from the guru.
