The DNKL Library
Welcome to the DNKL online catalogue! We are very pleased to announce that DNKL now has a functioning lending library to provide hard-copy Dharma materials for students at all levels of practice. In the planning stages is a full online catalogue of DNKL’s holdings so that patrons might “browse” from anywhere; the limited offerings now listed are intended as a trial run to establish whether there is interest.
Items within each genre are listed in alphabetical order by title, except for the section on General Buddhism, which is listed in alphabetical order by author.
DNKL members and local students may borrow any books except those marked “Non-Circulating,” which can be read in the library. To check books out, please refer to the guidelines for borrowing. All visitors are welcome to browse and read materials in the library (sharing space with the Dharma Store).
Guidelines for Borrowing
One can easily browse DNKL’s holdings, and ascertain where they can be found, in the online catalogue.
On the hanging clipboard, please write the book’s title, your name and phone number, and the date you checked out the book. Please also indicate the date returned.
As per Geshe Dargey, materials may be checked for one month only. Please return borrowed items promptly so others may use them.
Please do not re-shelve the materials you are returning, but rather leave them lying flat on the low white shelf in the library.
You will notice that some materials are marked “Non-Circulating” in the catalog and on the spines of books. These items should not be removed from the library.
Please remember that Dharma books are sacred texts that should be treated respectfully. One should not dog-ear, write on, or otherwise deface Dharma materials.
Please do not leave bookmarks, papers, crumbs, etc.—however slender—in the books. These create spaces between the pages that can (especially in our less-than-perfect library environment) be an entryway for mold and dust mites, which cause the deterioration of books and bindings and present a health hazard for those with allergies. (When the library was being organized, some of our books were found with rice, grass, and dirt between the pages!)
If you find extraneous matter in a borrowed book, please remove and dispose of it. Your help will help us maintain this valuable resource for all Dharma students!
Books standing upright on the low white shelf are available for purchase. Those on the right side are new books available at the list price. Those on the left side marked with the DNKL stamp are available for half the list price.
Students who have not received initiation into tantric practice should not peruse Tantric texts, except for Lama Tsongkapa’s Preparing for Tantra: The Mountain of Blessings and Lama Yeshe’s Introduction to Tantra.
